Closing the Teach For America Blogging Gap

Gratitude List

I am thankful for M who is blogging about first year teaching and has so much wisdom for me. I’m thankful for her text-messages that take me back to a different world. A world that seemed just as hard as the mom-dying world I’m currently in. But I see that the first year teacher world ended, and I was able to get happy back. I can get happy back again even if I have no mom.

I am thankful for Math in AZ who agreed to get dinner with me and distracted me from cancer-talk with education talk last week.

I am grateful to Wess for showing me that my stories can make a difference even if it is a small one.

I’m thankful to Adam who founded TeachforUs. I wouldn’t know Wess, or mathinaz or M without him. Writing encouraging comments on new teacher blogs is the absolute perfect distraction from my fuck-cancer life. Because I know if they quit or if they don’t, as long as they don’t die trying to teach, eventually they will be okay and they will be stronger and smarter.
